This class has by far been my
favorite class I have taken at Molloy. I am so thankful I was lucky enough to
get a spot. Without this class I may haven never explored half of the places we
went to, and learned so much. By being able to experience these historic places
first hand, and not just sitting in a classroom listening to teachers drone on,
really gave me a better knowledge and understanding of everything. Mike and
Merritta were great teachers and a pleasure to spend 7 hours a day with in
class. I thought I knew a lot about New York City, but this class proved me
wrong.
My
favorite class was to Lower Manhattan and Chelsea. There was not one part of
that day I did not enjoy, even in the cold weather! Out of the museums we
visited I really enjoyed the Tenement Museum, and the Museum of the Moving
Imagine. Even though I did find that art museums to be a little boring I do
have to admit that I was in the public square the other day and caught myself
looking at a piece of art thinking about the meaning behind it, so it looks
like you got through to me Mike. Walking
over the Brooklyn Bridge was an amazing experience I’m glad I got to have. I
never thought I would enjoy walking so much, but I loved the walks along the water
and the High line. I found the sights to be beautiful and relaxing. I could
definitely see myself going to those places on day just to relax. The only part
of these classes I didn’t enjoy were the walking tours and the day of Harlem. I
did enjoy the walking tour of Immigrant New York more then Harlem, but I found
it hard to focus during both with so much going on around us. As I said in my
Harlem post I felt uncomfortable and unwelcomed in Harlem. If I could recommend
you to change a class it would be this one.
Overall
this class has been an amazing experience that I would recommend to any student
at Molloy. I’m so glad I had the opportunity to take it. I am so much more
knowledgeable now about the city I live, and I intend on sharing that knowledge
with others. I already intend on going back to the places that I enjoyed most,
and seeing what new information I can discover. Once again Mike and Merritta THANK
YOU!!!!
